Bethesda has today announced that the leaked release date for The Elder Scrolls Online which came about last week was, in fact, false.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the so-far unsuccessful MMORPG will be released for the consoles on June 9th worldwide.

It’s the first time that players will be able to experience the world of Tamriel with their friends on consoles, although the ability to adventure alone is an option. Players may even want to join immense armies to participate in large player vs. player battles. Whether the console versions of these games live up the expectations we had initially is a different matter. Dale had a hands-on with the game in April last year and he wasn’t overly impressed.

He said “In theory, exploring the whole of Tamriel should make for a thrilling experience – a giant, multiplayer version of Skyrim where the player is able to simply point at a direction and head there. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Instead, Elder Scrolls Online is a painfully linear experience that shepherds you through zones and a turgid main questline, hemming you in until it deems you ready to progress to a new area.” Whether time has helped the latest installment in the Elder Scrolls series is a different matter, and time is literally what will make the difference.

In addition to these new releases, Bethesda have also announced that PC and Mac users will no longer have to pay a monthly fee to experience what The Elder Scrolls Online has to offer. Instead, players will be able to make a one-time purchase of the game in order to enjoy exactly what it is that the MMORPG has to offer; however, Bethesda will still offer a monthly subscription package in the form of an ESO Plus membership, which provides exclusive in-game content for players, a monthly allocation of crowns to use in the store and access to all currently released DLC. It should be noted that all PC/Mac players with active subscriptions on March 17th will be automatically put forward for the subscription in order to enjoying reaping the membership privileges.

Matt Firor, Game Director of The Elder Scrolls Online said of the game:

“Our fans are our biggest inspiration, and we’ve listened to their feedback on the entertainment experience they want. We know that Elder Scrolls fans want choice when it comes to how they play and how they pay, and that is what they will get. We have made numerous changes to the game over the past year, and are confident this is a game that Elder Scrolls fans will love to play. Players can explore Tamriel with friends, battle creatures, craft, fish, steal, or siege. The choice is theirs. The game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay with unlimited adventures with one single game purchase. We can’t wait for everyone, whether they’ve played before or will be experiencing it for the first time, to begin adventuring in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.”
