We snagged some pretty awesome info on the upcoming Resident Evil Revelations 2 from Capcom. The spin-off sequel will feature Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica, and Moira Burton - daughter of RE series staple Barry Burton, as two playable characters. Claire and Moira will be taking the place of series originals Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.
The setting is an abandoned island detention facility, which should provide plenty of creep factor, and producer Michiteru Okabe has promised “a variety of locations; each of them filled with unspeakable horrors and unique gameplay experiences.”
Horrifyingly vague, but we’re pretty sure it’ll be effectively frightening. Zombies and abandoned facilities tend to mesh well, after all. Okabe also noted that Revelations 2 will “build upon two of the best-received features of the first titles.” Their focus on the Revelations sequel has been on the survival horror atmosphere and the dramatic serial story structure. They’re basically doing their damnedest to scare the hell out of you.
He’s also promising “dramatic cliffhangers” to leave us wondering what will happen next, giving us the impression that the storytelling and the scare factor that it brings is really on the forefront of this project.
Still no word on what platforms we can expect to see Resident Evil Revelations 2 on, but since the original was re-released from the Nintendo 3DS to Xbox 360, PS3, WiiU, and PC we can assume it will at least be on one of these, if not all of them. The title is slated for release in Japan sometime early 2015. We’ll keep you posted with any terrifying zombie updates as they come in.
