CD Projekt RED has released a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ahead of the game’s release next month.
In the video, which you can view below, players are introduced to Geralt’s world and the various gameplay mechanics and features in The Witcher 3. If you’re already familiar with the series then it’s possible you’ll find the narrator slightly annoying, bordering on condescending; and UK viewers will flinch when she drops the “h” from the word “herb”. But the new gameplay footage more than makes up for it, and there’s some good laughs to be hand thanks to some of the dialogue snippets. A drunken dwarf cheerfully invites Geralt to join him for a drink, only to end his invitation by calling him a c*cksucker; and a vampire, after being worken up by Geralt and finding out that it isn’t the year he was hoping for, tells him to f*ck off before going back to sleep.
And if you were still on the fence about the visual merits of CD Projekt RED’s latest RPG epic, this trailer may be the one that changes your mind. From crashing waves during some of the new sailing gameplay, to a setting sun bathing the world in a burnt orange glow, The Witcher 3 already looked like it could be among the most visually impressive games released this year; this new trailer looks like it could be among the most gorgeous games of all time. Fire fizzes and sparks; trees and vegetation blow convincingly in the wind; and characters and monsters truly feel a part of the world, rather than merely occupying it.
A brief shot of an almost naked Geralt and a female companion canoodling on the back of a horse also suggests that CD Projekt hasn’t shied away from sexual content in the hopes of reaching a broader audience with their latest title.
All in all, The Witcher 3 remains one of the most exciting games on the horizon this year, and now that it’s finally due for release next month after a series of delays, the wait is only becoming more agonizing the closer to arrival it gets.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released on May 19th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
