Warhammer 40000: Regicide Coming to Steam Early Access

Fans of Warhammer 40,000 will finally be able to get their first taste of the turn-basted strategy Warhammer 40000: Regicide in single player, multiplayer and classic modes soon.

Just two months after opening pre-orders for the Collector’s Edition, developer Hammerfall Publishing have announced that it will be available on Steam early access in the coming weeks.

Claiming to have a more original and brutal take on turn-based strategy, Regicide takes characters, abilities and environments that are based on the Warhammer 40000 universe, created by Games Workshop. The gameplay itself will be a blend of classic strategy with new cinematic action-heavy elements.

Similar to chess, Regicide is easy to learn but difficult to master. Classic chess mechanics are given a twist to create something new - use abilities, command different races, fight for varied game objectives and call in assaults from off-board to aid your war effort. The game will also feature a single-player Blood Angels campaign and you’ll be able to challenge opponents worldwide under both Regicide and Classic rulesets, with ELO-rated stats and several game modes.

Warhammer 40,000 has seen a number of videogames released in the last year. Space Hulk returns to the classic gameplay of the original tabletop boardgame spin-off, while Apocalpypse is a turn-based strategy with hundreds of units in play at any one point in time. And aside from Regicide, there’s also the upcoming Battlefleet Gothic: Armada to look forward to, which takes the action into space, with players commanding fleets of vast ships. And those rumors of a new Dawn of War game don’t look like they’re about to go away any time soon. Regicide is certainly the most divergent of the bunch, but if it plays well and nails the grim feeling of the WH40k universe, it could be worth a punt when it’s released sometime in the summer months.

Hammerfall has published a new trailer to go alongside the latest announcement. You can check it out below.
