Electronic Arts has announced a new - and rather surprising - program via its digital distribution platform, Origin.
Under the new “Origin Game Time” program, users will be able to download and play a full game for a limited amount of time. Users participating in the scheme will be allowed to play the complete, full versions of select titles for free - so long as there’s time on their Game Time clock. The Game Time clock starts its 48-hour count down the moment you start the game after download, and continues to count down in real-time, despite if the game gets paused during gameplay.
The first game that will be available on the Origin Game Time program will be none other than Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall.
All eligible titles, starting with Titanfall, will be viewable on the Free Games page on Origin, where you can see the game and download it. The best part about this is that when you play, all of your progress in any of the games that become available, will be saved. This means that if you end up purchasing the game after the free weekend, you will be able to pick up where you left off.
Game Time started becoming available across the world today and over the next several hours, will become available to all. So if it isn’t available for you just yet, give it a little more time. Electronic Arts promises the Game Time Program will be available for everyone.
Alternatively, Electronic Arts has announced that each Game Time will be unique. There will be different games each time, along with different amounts of time on the clock, depending on the game. Of course this was all announced and released during Steam’s infamous Summer Sale; a cynical observer might think that it’s been timed specifically to take some of the publicity away from Valve.
If you haven’t gotten the chance to leap from wall to wall or to beat the crap out of your opponents with mechanical beasts yet, now is your chance; and it won’t disappoint - we scored Titanfall 8/10 in our review, saying “It’s addictive, incredibly attractive, and displays a good awareness of tight mechanics and gameplay balance.”
