At a press conference today, CD Projekt has announced the official release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - February 24, 2014. The game will receive a simultaneous launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
In addition, the developer publisher detailed what you can expect from the Standard, Collector’s, Digital and GOG.com digital editions of the game, and as might have been expected given just how much they managed to cram into The Witcher 2 boxes, it’s looking rather impressive.
First up, the Standard physical edition on all platforms will come with a copy of the game, the manual, a map of the gameworld, the official soundtrack CD, a companion book to get you up to speed with the world and events from the previous games, and a selection of stickers.
The Collector’s edition meanwhile, goes a step further - as you might expect. Shipping in a rather hefty box, the Collector’s edition comes with all the content included in the standard edition, plus a 200-age artbook, a steel Wolf medallion with chain, a steelcase, and a 10-inch hand-painted statue made of polystone, depicting series protagonist Geralt locked in combat with a Gryphon. The Collector’s edition is only available via preorder, with orders being taken now.
Moving on to the digital editions, purchase the game on Steam or other digital platforms and you’ll receive the game, a digital copy of the same 200-page artbook included in the physical Collector’s edition, every trailer from the game in high-definition and a making-of documentary.
Finally, there’s a digital edition of the game exclusive to GOG.com. In addition to everything in the standard digital edition, the GOG.com edition also includes a digital comic book, concept art and avatars for your GOG.com account, a selection of desktop wallpapers, an extended edition of the game’s soundtrack, and a copy of Bioware’s original Neverwinter Nights RPG, complete with all 3 expansions. Finally, if you own the previous two games in the series - on any platform (details of how this will work weren’t made clear), you’ll receive a 5% preorder discount.
Well, you certainly can’t accuse them of scrimping on content.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final installment of the developer’s long-running and critically acclaimed RPG series, based on the novels of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. In Wild Hunt, Geralt finally learns the truth about what happened to him prior to the events of the first game, in an vast open-world adventure which the developer claims contains over 100 hours of gameplay.
