The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Trailer

The Astronauts, a new indie studio founded by former members of Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, is aiming to evolve immersion and story-telling in modern day videogames. It’s a bold goal, but one that they stand behind with great passion, and proudly point to The Vanishing of Ethan Carter as a means of doing it. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is inspired by odd fictitious stories and general tales of macabre from the 20th century that should supposedly be played at night, alone and with headphones on (The triple threat of horror games).

You play a detective with the strange ability to visualize the scenes of lethal crimes. You’ll start by investigating the kidnapping of a young boy in the hopes of finding him before it’s too late. Before long, your inquiries end up leading you to a beautiful mountainous area. All is not well, however; after discovering a severely mutilated body belonging to one of the kidnappers, you’re left with a number of questions and must try to answer them with a combination of you abilities and modern detective skills.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is being developed with the latest version of the highly praised Unreal Engine 3 provided by Epic Games, along with “exciting new technology” - the details of which will be revealed in upcoming months (Oculus Rift, perhaps?).
