Oh dear.
The Sun - the British newspaper that seemingly prides itself on being the bastion of questionable news stories - has confused Sarif Industries for a real company.
Sarif Industries is, of course, the fictional corporation at the center of Eidos Montreal’s excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
In the article, the Sun asks a writer to reel off a list of their most desired upcoming technologies. Fair enough, you might think - after all, technology moves at a fast pace; concepts which might have seemed unimaginable just twenty years ago are now common fixtures in the home. But in their excitement, it looks like they forgot to do a little fact-checking.
Halfway down the list, Cybernetic Implants makes an appearance. Again, fair enough - it’s an area of intense interest in a number of industries, not least the medical profession.
But, here’s where it gets a bit silly. In the accompanying blurb, Sarif Industries is credited as having developed a cybernetic eye. There’s even an accompanying photo, which is clearly a computer-rendered image.
The Sun, ladies and gentlemen: amazingly, still the UK’s biggest-selling newspaper.
