SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, Namco Bandai’s attempt at replicating the free-to-play success of Tekken Revolution has been released today exclusively to the PlayStation 3 PSN store .

Similar to Tekken Revolution, SoulCalibur: Lost Swords is is a single-player game based off a popular fighting franchise that has players fight their way through typical Soul Calibur battles versus the AI. As the player progresses, they earn items which can then be used to customize their chosen character.

To fight each battle, a player must expend a certain amount of in-game currency, and like the typical freenium model, once their supply of said currency runs low, they can either wait for it to refill or spend real world cash to continue playing.

Additionally, Namco Bandai is giving out a free set of bonus items for anyone who downloads and plays the game within the first month of release, although it is currently unknown what these items will be in-game.

SoulCalibur: Lost Swords is now available in both the US and EU on the PS3 PSN store. Take a look at the Japanese launch trailer below to get a feel fore the over-the-top flashiness that has become such a staple of the Soul Calibur franchise.

Daniel doesn't just play and write about games, but he also writes his own comics. He can usually be found arguing with Dale about who the best member of the X-Men is (it's Jamie Madrox, obviously)
