Activision’s long-running franchise is steadfast to depict an accurate future in its most recent shooter flagship, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. A Behind the Scenes video with creative director Bret Robbins of developer Sledgehammer Games reveals an astoundingly large well of expertise.
“Our military advisors, Delta force, operators, Navy Seals, these guys are the real deal and they bring a level of authenticity to the story.” Robbins says. Most notable is the inclusion of futurists, whose primary purpose in development is “to think about the world in 40 years.” Essentially, this serves to strengthen a sense of realism to what Robbins declares as a “compelling story with very compelling characters.” In the context of the game, the role of these futurists is to elucidate on weapons and devices of the future.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set in 2054, where a private military corporation has taken the reins as the world hegemon after a catastrophic attack on global infrastructure. The player is an advanced soldier with new exoskeleton abilities and high-tech gear, tasked with bringing order to a highly chaotic world.
The game first gained widespread attention with the reveal of Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as a character, which Continue Play previously covered.
