The next installment in the Fatal Frame series is due to be revealed on the Japanese streaming website NicoNico on Thursday July 17, in a dedicated event hosted by Koei Tecmo. The presentation will show viewers the very first footage of the previously-announced Wii U exclusive Fatal Frame (I can already see us using the gamepad as a camera), as well as discussions revolving around the popular Fatal Frame franchise.
This next entry into the Fatal Frame series, known as Project Zero in Japan, is under development through the hard work and collaboration of Koei Tecmo and Nintendo and doesn’t have a set release date. Perhaps it will be revealed during the stream. The new videogame isn’t the only thing that Tecmo Koei are announcing: apparently a live-action film, original novel and comic book series are on the cards for Japan this year and will also be discussed during the presentation.
The last Fatal Frame installment , Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, was developed by Suda 51-fronted studio Grasshopper Manufacture, rather than Tecmo Koei, back in 2008 for the Wii, with a 3DS spin-off named Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir following in 2012 alongside a Wii remake of Fatal Frame 2. Nintendo acquired co-ownership of the Fatal Frame series in 2012, which likely means that we won’t see the series appearing on any non-Nintendo consoles for the foreseeable future.
