Ever heard of Minecraft? Hopefully you have, as it’s been one of the biggest-selling games of all time, surpassing the likes of Mario Kart and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
News has surfaced from the Wall Street Journal that Notch, the game’s creator and founder of Mojang AB has been in talks recently with Microsoft’s Xbox Division head Phil Spencer about selling Mojang AB to Microsoft for a smooth $2 billion.
The sale will most likely be completed by the end of next week and, should it go through, Notch will leave Mojang with even heavier pockets than usual. No further comment has been made with regards to the future state of all the other employees or the game itself as of yet.
This is one of the many recent large-scale acquisitions being made by technological companies, the latest of which being Amazon purchasing Twitch.Tv, a broadcasting service, for an estimated $1 billion.
Humorously, an old tweet from Notch has resurfaced in light of recent events, which he made due to multiple companies requesting Notch to formally endorse or approve of their games. It’s all the more portentous, given this report.
Anyway, my price is two billion dollars. Give me two billion dollars, and I'll endorse your crap.
