Fan-Made Everquest Emulation Given The Blessing Of Original Creators

Fan-made Everyquest Resurrection Given the blessing of original creators

Project 1999, a fan-made emulation of the original Everquest, has been approved by Daybreak Game Company, formerly Sony Online Entertainment. The emulation operates on a not-for-profit basis and seeks to provide the most authentic Everquest experience that’s possible.

There was some doubt about the legal viability of the project after Sony Online Entertainment broke away from Sony and became Daybreak Games. However, according to a post made on the Project 1999 forums, Daybreak Games has given the emulation its blessing.

“As some of you may be aware, in the past there has been both confusion and concern over the status of Project 1999,” said the remake’s developer. “We have recently entered into a written agreement with Daybreak Game Company LLC that formally recognizes Project 1999 as a fan based, not-for-profit, classic EverQuest emulation project.”

This essentially means that Project 1999 will be allowed to continue their work without the risk of legal repercussions. Therefore, you can now login and relive the glory of Everquest, considered by many to be one of the greatest MMO experiences ever made, and the game which set the template later followed by World of Warcraft.

When the game’s original creator’s decided to call it Everquest I doubt they ever thought that the game would actually go on forever, now that could turn out to be the case. Check out this link if you want instructions on how you can start your own Everquest, which requires that you own a copy of Everquest: Titanium Edition.

As for Daybreak Game Company, the studio still has its hands full developing Landmark, Everquest Next, and H1Z1. Landmark has so far been met positively, but H1Z1 has had a somewhat rockier time of things.

If you want to know more about Project 1999, and see just how much hard work has gone into the project so far, check out the latest official videocast from the devs below.
