Fallout 4 Will Be 1080p And 30 Fps

Fallout 4 Will Run At 1080p and 30FPS

UPDATE: Bethesda has announced via Twitter that Howard’s comments were regarding the console versions, and that the PC version of the game will be “unrestricted.”

ORIGINAL: Fallout 4 will run at 1080p and 30fps on all platforms, Bethesda has confirmed.

Game director Todd Howard confirmed the news to Digital Spy over the weekend, though it was left unclear as to whether he was simply discussing the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game, or if he was also including the PC version.

As well as discussing the intended parity between versions, Howard also mentioned the surprise announcement at Microsoft’s E3 conference that Fallout 4 will support mods on Xbox One. Speaking on whether there is an intent to add mod support to the PS4 version as well, Howard said that “we’re going to make every effort to. If Sony says no, we won’t, but I don’t think they will.”

Either way, console owners will have to wait. While the PC version of Fallout 4 will support modding at launch - currently slated to be 10th November 2015 - it won’t be added to Xbox One (and potentially PS4) until sometime in 2016.

Fallout 4 has been a long time coming, and over the last couple of years there had been a steady stream of rumors and leaks; but it wasn’t until E3 that Bethesda formally announced its existence. As well as the obvious improvements to visuals thanks to more advanced hardware and a new game engine (Fallout 3 and New Vegas ran on the now-decrepit and much-maligned Gamebryo engine), a host of other features have been confirmed. Combat is now just as effective in real time as it is using VATS, while the gameplay footage shown during E3 confirmed that switching over to the VATS targeting system no longer pauses the game entirely, instead causing the game to enter slow-motion.

You’ll also be able to build structures to help you survive your journey throughout the wasteland, which is said to be larger than ever. If you can’t wait until November to get your Fallout fix though, why not check out the newly-released Fallout Shelter, which launched on iOS devices last week and is already making Bethesda a ton of money. Chris Corbett reviewed the game for Continue Play, awarding it a “great” score of 8/10.

Fallout Shelter is a great little game, so if you own an iPhone or iPad (or shortly, an Android device) get it now – especially if you’re a Fallout fan,” Chris wrote in his Fallout Shelter review. “Although there isn’t a great deal of depth to the gameplay, that doesn’t matter: the aesthetic, humor and Fallout setting make this an incredibly fun title which I’ve already poured hours into.”
