Batman: Arkham Knight PC Sales Suspended

Warner Bros. Interactive has halted sales of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC, amidst widespread complaints about the game’s performance.

In a statement issued on Arkham Knight‘s official forum, community spokesperson Yorick apologized to gamers affected by the problems, and reassured them that the publisher is doing everything they can to address all issues.

“We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC,” the statement reads. “We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards. We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall.

“Thank you to those players who have already given valuable feedback. We are continuously monitoring all threads posted in the Official Batman: Arkham Knight Community and Steam forums, as well as any issues logged with our Customer Support (support.wbgames.com). If you purchased your copy of the game and are not satisfied with your experience, then we ask for your patience while these issues are resolved. If desired, you can request a refund at help.steampowered.com (Steam refund policies can be found here: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds) or the retail location where you purchased the game.

“The Batman: Arkham fans have continually supported the franchise to its current height of success, and we want to thank you for your patience as we work to deliver an updated version of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC so you can all enjoy the final chapter of the Batman: Arkham series as it was meant to be played.”

As we reported yesterday, thousands of gamers have been experiencing frequent crashes, persistent low framerates and other problems when attempting to play Arkham Knight on PC. While AMD graphics card owners appear to be the worst affected, players with Nvidia cards have also reported severe problems.

It probably didn’t help matters that Warner Bros. quietly updated the minimum system requirements for the game just hours before it went on sale, a move which many saw as underhanded. Arkham Knight‘s store page on Steam was flooded with negative user reviews, and the game currently stands at a “Mostly Negative” rating of just 32%, based on nearly 9,000 reviews at time of writing.

It’s not the first time that the Batman: Arkham series has found itself under fire due to performance problems. 2013’s Arkham Origins (which wasn’t developed by Rocksteady, admittedly) was released in a shabby state, with a litany of game-breaking bugs, poort performance on both console and PC, and no small amount of crashes. Despite heavy criticism, Warner. Bros ceased support for the game just months after it went on sale, despite there being many unresolved issues.

Our review of Batman: Arkham Knight is currently in progress, based on Xbox One retail code provided by the publisher. Keep an eye out for it!
