Arkham Origins - Cold, Cold Heart out now

The latest bit of DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins has been released today on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, publisher Warner Bros has announced.

Cold, Cold Heart concerns itself with the first encounter between the Dark Knight and icy villain Mr. Freeze. The expansion takes place over several new locations, such as Wayne Manor and GothCorp, as Batman seeks to bring an end to Freeze’s dastardly plot. Promising “hours” of new gameplay, a number of new gadgets are available to play around with, such as Thermo-charged batarangs, thermal gloves, and a new suit designed to help him cope in extreme environments.

The expansion costs $9.99/£7.99 on digital marketplaces, though of course if you purchased the Season Pass, you’ll get it for free.

We didn’t think much of Arkahm Origins when we reviewed it upon its release last year. While the gameplay was tried and tested, we felt that new studio Warner Bros. Montreal stuck too rigidly to the established formula - right down to re-using large amounts of assets from the previous game. In addition, a large number of severe technical problems has plagued the title since release - problems which the developer recently said would no longer be fixed, much to fans’ anger. Hopefully Cold, Cold Heart is greeted with a warmer reception.

Meanwhile, original franchise developer Rocksteady is currently beavering away on the final installment in the Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight. Arkham Knight features a brand new villain and finally lets players get behind the wheel of the iconic Batmobile. It’s due towards the end of the year on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. We previously gave our choice of 5 villains we’d like to see featured in the game, which you can view here.

To go along with the release of Cold, Cold Heart, Warner Bros has released a clutch of screenshots and a new trailer, which you can view below.
