Today Capcom announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy will be heading to the US Nintendo eShop in winter this year and priced at $29.99.
The package includes all three games in the first story arc of the Ace Attorney franchise - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations. Each game has been dolled up with new, high-resolution artwork that takes advantage of the 16:9 aspect ratio and stereoscopic 3D of the 3DS’ top screen.
The trilogy was originally released in Japan for the Game Boy Advance under the name Gyakuten Saiban and then touched up slightly for DS re-release. For those who don’t speak Japanese, the DS release of the games would’ve been their first exposure to Phoenix Wright‘s courtroom drama. This is a shame, as the localization attempted to remove Japanese cultural references to give the impression that the story was taking place in the US instead of Japan, with mixed success - something which fans have noted to comic effect.
The good news is that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy will also include its Japanese Gyakuten Saiban counterparts, allowing players to enjoy the courtroom drama as was originally intended… provided they can read Japanese, of course. It’s unusual for Capcom to boast about a feature that’s likely to only benefit a small number of people, but we have no objections (no pun intended).
We have plenty of screens and a trailer that show off the crisp hi-res artwork in action. Review the evidence for yourselves.
