DOOM Launch Trailer released

Ahead of this week’s release of DOOM, developers iD Software have released the official launch trailer onto the interwebz.

The trailer shows off the singleplayer gameplay and contains a fair amount of gore. In keeping with the series’ reputation, you can expect a fair amount of blood and guts to be spilled.

Despite the lack of a number on the end, DOOM is actually the fourth mainline installment in the series (Final DOOM doesn’t count, apparently) that originally started all the way back in 1993. The last installment, DOOM 3, was released all the way back in 2004. Where the hell has the time gone?

DOOM 3 was criticized by some for replacing the wide open arenas of the original games with more linear corridors and an over-reliance on jump scares. DOOM (the new one) is instead a return to the series’ roots. And it looks rather fun, too. Which always helps.
