New Halo 5 Trailer Mourns The Master Chief

Microsoft has released the latest trailer for Halo 5: Guardians. Titled “A Hero Falls”, the trailer pays its respects to legendary hero Master Chief.

The death of Master Chief has been alluded to on a number of occasions in the run up to Halo 5, but it seems unlikely that Microsoft is prepared to kill off its mascot just yet - Halo 6 is already being worked on, and 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor and Bonnie Ross stated that thhe studio has at least a rough idea of where the series’ story could go over the next 20 years.

But that doesn’t mean 343 is tying itself down, and O’Connor was quick to state that the studio is ensuring that it’s flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances as time goes on. “If you start making those stepping stones too rigid, then you’re not being realistic about the game development process,” O’Connor explained. “That process could change the story but we know what’s going to happen in the next game, and we kind of know what’s going to happen to the Master Chief ultimately.”

So although the new trailer certainly seems to hint that Halo 5 could be end for the Master Chief, it looks as though 343 Industries’ has already confirmed that the savior of mankind has a future - at least for the time being.

Halo 5: Guardians will launch on October 27th, 2015, exclusively for Xbox One. You can view the latest trailer below.
