The Last of Us 2 May Have Been Accidentally Confirmed

Will we see these two again?

Naughty Dog may have just accidentally confirmed the existence of The Last of Us 2 during a livestream focused on the upcoming Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

During the livestream event, which featured Naughty Dog writer Josh Scherr, community strategist Eric Monacelli, and lead animator Eric Baldwin, Scherr made a slip of the tongue that seemed to all but confirm the existence of the sequel.

“All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric [Baldwin] here,” Scherr said, “and [on] the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?”

While he may have been talking about the first edition of The Last of Us on the PS3 (as opposed to the remastered version on the PS4), it’s unlikely as Scherr appeared to be a bit flustered, repeating the term several times. Amusingly, the other members of the podcast then simply carried on as though nothing had happened. You can watch the video below to judge for yourself.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that a sequel to the post-apocalyptic third person shooter is in the works. Back in June, Nolan North claimed that The Last of Us 2 was currently in-development, after he was asked what he was going to do after working on after Uncharted 4 at a panel held at Metrocon 2015.

There has been no official word from Sony or Naughty Dog as to whether or not the game is currently in-development at this time, and it’s unlikely that we’ll receive any official confirmation at least until after Uncharted 4′s release next year - making next year’s E3 the likeliest candidate for an announcement to be made. However, Naughty Dog’s creative director, Neil Druckmann, stated during a Reddit AMA last year that the chances of doing a sequel were about “50/50”.
