Bloodborne is to get its first major expansion this November, Sony has announced at Tokyo Game Show.
Titled The Old Hunters, the first expansion for Miyazaki’s Souls-esque PS4 exclusive action-RPG adds new weapons, new enemies, and new areas to explore. It’s set for release on November 24th, and will cost $19.99/ €14.99 / £11.99. On the same day, a new edition of Bloodborne will go on sale at retailers, bundling the original game and The Old Hunters. There’s no word yet on how much this bundle will cost, but it seems a fair bet that it will cost around the same as an average new game (that is to say, around $60-70).
Here’s the official description, as revealed over on the PlayStation Blog this morning:
Set in a nightmare world where hunters from the past are trapped forever, explore brand new stages full of dangers, rewards, and deadly beasts to overcome. You’ll find multiple new outfits and weapons to add to your arsenal as well as additional magic to wield and add more variety to your combat strategy.
With new story details, learn the tale of hunters who once made Yharnam their hunting grounds, meet new NPCs, and discover another side of the history and world of Bloodborne. Here’s a brief glimpse of just some of what lies in store for you when The Old Hunters launches on November 24th, including Simon’s Bowblade weapon, and new boss enemy Ludwig.
A trailer was shown alongside the announcement, giving a taste of what to expect.
Bloodborne was originally released back in March of this year, and quickly won universal acclaim. An evolution of the punishing and atmospheric action role-playing that From has become famous for with its Dark Souls series, Bloodborne shifted its setting from Dark Fantasy to Gothic Horror, while increasing the pace of combat.
Brian Kale reviewed Bloodborne upon its release earlier this year, and award From Software’s latest sadism simulator a score of 10/10. It’s rather good then, as record-breaking sales figures soon attested to.
“Bloodborne sheds all the bloat and flaws that had grown over the three Souls games, culminating in Dark Souls 2,” Brian wrote in his Bloodborne review. “What remains is the core gameplay that made the Souls games a joy to play for those willing to get past all those unexplained obstacles: rewarding combat and exploration.”
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters will launch exclusively on PS4 November 24th, 2015.
