Dead Or Alive Extreme 3 has been announced by Koei Tecmo. The game is currently in development by Team Ninja exclusively for Japan and the Asian market.

The Extreme series is a spin-off from the core fighting game series, focusing instead on the female side of the cast as they play various mini games while vacationing at a Beach Resort.

The Extreme series has been the center of controversy in the past. Team Ninja has been accused of misogyny in due to its preoccupation with sexualizing female fighters, specifically by giving them oversized breasts that jiggle realistically - a feature known somewhat derisively as “boob physics”.

The low point came with the release of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 in 2006, which featured the series’ female leads wearing ridiculously skimpy beachwear undertaking a series of minigames seemingly all designed to get their breasts bouncing as much as possible. One minigame required you to slam into your opponent using your chosen character’s backside, for example.

Things weren’t helped by the fact that Team Ninja exagerrated the physics so much that breasts even jiggled when characters were standing still, and each had an unlockable cutscene featuring them performing a pole dance routine.

It’s not known whether criticism of the second game by Western games critics is the reason why Extreme 3 is currently exclusive to Japan and Asia, but it seems likely.

Dead or Alive Extreme 3 is due to be released on PlayStation 4. There’s currently no release date.

George is the answer to the question: If you give a gamer a voice, does he make a sound? A fan of strong narrative-based games, when he isn't engrossed in the latest story-heavy title, George can be found plucking the strings of his guitar and singing along to Ed Sheeran.
