Quantum Break, Remedy’s time-manipulating Xbox One eclusive shooter, will be released on April 5, 2016, Microsoft has announced.
News of the release date came during the game’s appearance at Microsoft’s Gamescom conference yesterday, alongside a new gameplay trailer. Quantum Break was previously scheduled for release this year, but Microsoft pushed back the game to provide breathing room for Halo 5 Guardians and Forza Motorsport 6.
Quantum Break features an unusual narrative structure. Gameplay segments are interspersed with episodes from a live-action tv show, while decisions made at key points will affect how the story plays out. Remedy has experimented with video game storytelling in the past - both Max Payne and Alan Wake repeatedly broke the fourth wall. It’s not known if Quantum Break‘s characters will be similarly prone to moments of being seemingly aware that they’re in a video game, but given the developer’s history it wouldn’t be at all surprising.
