Activision has released the first batch of screenshots and a gameplay trailer for Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5.
If you’re even remotely a fan of either skateboarding or video games, you may have heard of a little game called Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. The newest iteration of the series, in development by Robomodo and Disruptive Games, is set to release on September 29 (October 2 in Europe) for the PS4 and Xbox One, with PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release dates slated for Q4, 2015. It’s the first entry in the series since Tony Hawks Proving Ground in 2007.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions won’t feature online multiplayer, however.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 aims to “[rekindle] the signature style of classic Pro Skater games. . . with the same renowned focus on daring objectives and fine-tuned controls.” Although I have to admit that I haven’t played a Tony Hawk game in about ten years, I did (as I imagine most gamers in 1999 did) spend many hours playing the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater – many of them just in the demo. If that isn’t just marketing speech and this newest release really intends to throw back to the original, I’m certainly interested.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will also feature online play, allowing players to drop into games with up to 20 other people at once, and do “Pretty much everything you could do in single player in past Tony Hawks games … like missions, unlocking new content and levelling up. . . [or] go head-to-head against all takers in competitive matches.”
