Chris Avellone Leaves Obsidian Entertainment

Chris Avellone, the co-founder, co-owner, chief creative officer, and creative director of Obsidian Entertainment, has just announced his departure from the studio.

Avellone announced on his twitter that he was leaving to accept a sudden job opening at a certain school for witchcraft and wizardry.

He later tweeted saying that, unfortunately, the first part of the message was serious and that he wished his fellow developers the best.

While working at Obsidian Entertainment, Avellone worked on games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords, and the Kickstarted Pillars of Eternity just to name a few.

In an email correspondence between Avellone and Eurogamer, he stated that:

“On the future, I’m off to pursue new projects, but I can’t say anything more at this time beyond life is short, and the ideas keep growing.”

What will the next step be in Avellone’s career? Hopefully his new projects will yield something truly extraordinary. In the meantime, he’ll most likely be pursuing his passion by teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts (and being a “Narrative Gunslinger” according to his LinkedIn profile).

Hugh somehow found his way to New York from Hawaii with no idea what to do with his life. His passion for video games led him to become a video game journalist. He hopes that people will give his writing a chance, and that they not make fun of how his name rhymes with everything; he's heard them all.
