After a year of being available in Japan, NIS America has released both a trailer and release date for the English version of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls.
Set in-between Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, the pre-sequel takes place after the events of Hopes Peak Academy, with society on the brink of collapsing and everyone falling into deep anarchy and chaos. With players taking up the role as Komaru Naegi, its up to you to escape the city with the help Toko Fukawa, as you battle your way through the mysterious group of children known as the warriors of hope.
Moving away from the original visual novel gameplay, Ultra Despair Girls is the first in the series to be played as a third-person shooter. Equipped with a hacking megaphone, players must battle their way through enemies by attacking, hacking and scanning through the environment for clues and hidden items. With the help of Toko Fukawa, players can also activate special attacks through the “Scissor Fever” gauge to defeat multiple enemies at the same time.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls is expected to launch September 1st on the PlayStation Vita. In the meantime, be sure to check out the first two visual novels (also on the PlayStation Vita). Having played through them, I can say for certain that the Danganronoa franchise is one of the funniest I’ve ever played, and one of the best to come out for the PlayStation Vita hardware.
