Bandai Namco today announced it’s latest project, Pac-Man 256 - the latest game in the Pac-Man series that will be free-to-play on smartphones and tablets.
Pac-Man 256 is being developed by Hipster Whale (Crossy Road) and Bandai Namco Studios Vancouver. They’re attempting to recapture Iwatani Toru’s original Pac-Man classic, but adapt it for a modern day mobile experience.
Pac-Man 256 will feature Pac-Man (who could have guessed?) being chased through an endless maze by the “256 Glitch”. You’ll be happy to hear that the game will feature plenty of Pac-Dots, Power Pellets and the infamous ghost gang, consisting of Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Other than these classic features, Pac-Man 256 will also include coins and power-ups among other new things.
“The gaming industry keeps on growing massively on a daily basis and we, at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe, are proud to be pioneers of this with some of the biggest licenses out there! This year, we are celebrating PAC-MAN’s 35th Anniversary and we couldn’t miss such an opportunity: we decided to create a brand new exciting game with Hipster Whale and BANDAI NAMCO Studios Vancouver.” said Head of mobile and web gaming at Bandai Namco, Tatsuya Kubota.
This results in a stirring game based on some elements that made history. Join us in celebrating PAC-MAN’s anniversary!”
Pac-Man 256 is set for release sometime this summer for smartphones and tablets. Take a gander at the announcement trailer below.
