Halo 5 marketing campaign gets underway with new ARG

Ahead of the release of Halo 5: Guardians this year, Microsoft has decided to launch a serialized fictional podcast called Hunt the Truth, that will revolve around Master Chief and his newfound status as a vigilante on the run. The podcast is a part of a Halo 5: Guardians alternate reality game - which will bring back memories of the I Love Bees ARG (if you were around back then).

Hunt the Truth will be an “episodic narrative audio series” that will feature the actor Keegan-Michael Key (from the famously funny Key and Peele series) playing the role of Benjamin Giraud, a war journalist who is busy profiling the Master Chief.

The first episode is available now via a site on Tumblr, but it’s not all that exciting, to tell the truth - it just introduces the idea of the Master Chief being a traitor to the ONSC. We are promised, however, that Giraud “lowly unearths startling new revelations about who the Master Chief really is, forcing listeners to reevaluate what they really know about humanity’s greatest hero”.

New episodes will be released every week through the Hunt the Truth Tumblr account leading up to E3 in June.

In other Halo news, Microsoft has released a small teaser trailer that’s meant to be studied “carefully”. Viewers are encouraged to slow the video down and study it frame-by-frame to try and uncover new clues about the Master Chief in Halo 5.

A number of people in the Halo community, as well as Reddit, have tried their hand at uncovering the hidden bits of information in the video. Various words have been found on the bullet so far, each shown briefly before zooming towards the Master Chief’s helmet. The words are as follows:

  • Son
  • Abductee
  • Victim
  • Orphan
  • Recruit
  • Soldier
  • Warrior
  • Ally
  • Hero
  • Savior
  • Traitor

Finally, a new live action trailer for Halo 5: Guardians will be revealed on the official Halo 5 website on March 29th, according to Microsoft. Keep your eyes peeled to our homepage for more information on that when the time comes.
