University in Madrid unveils Pac-Man statue

Rey Juan Carlos University in Spain unveiled a Pac Man statue today, donated by the Japanese Ambassador in celebration of being the first university in the Madrid region to offer a degree in video game development. Both as an homage to interactive media as it stands, and also to pave the way for the students who will go on to change the face of gaming in the future.

Standing at over two meters tall, the Pac Man statue is very interesting to have outside of a typically gaming space. Having it in a typically more sober and professional setting only adds to that. Given that its inauguration is accompanied by staff at Bandai Namco, the Japanese Ambassador, and the president of the university, it does feel a little less like something for the students than it could be.

Still, it’s a motherfucking Pac-Man statue. What’s not to love?
