Patrice Désilets, original creator of the Assassin’s Creed series, is working on a Triple-A, third-person “historical action survival” title at his newly formed studio, Panache Digital Games.
Désilets believes strongly in the AAA industry, saying “I believe wholeheartedly that this medium we call ‘video games’ can be a positive force for change in our society, and that AAA quality gaming experiences have unmatched strength to achieve this.”
He’s not wrong. Games do have an opportunity to tell stories that other mediums can’t, or at the very least couldn’t in the same way; having a studio determined to apply an indie mindset to a Triple-A budget and scope could produce some wonderful results. However, it could also go the way of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series studio, GSC Game Studios, or L.A. Noire‘s Team Bondi. It might also suffer from being too similar to the already-existing Assassin’s Creed, and fail to capitalize on the opportunity to do something new. That said, there is a lot of hope there, and the opportunity for something new is always a welcome addition to the gaming landscape. Hopefully we’ll be able to get our first glimpse of the as-yet-unnamed title soon.
Although there is little information on the project so far, more can be learned about Panache Digital Games from their website.
