Bandai Namco has today announced a new version of the critically acclaimed action RPG Dark Souls 2 which was originally released back in March 2014 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The remake, entitled Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin will feature a graphical overhaul, new in-game events, more enemies and most interestingly, it will contain more in game lore and even a new NPC for players to meet on their journeys through Drangleic. Unfortunately, only current gen and PC will get the improved visuals but all platforms will get the added content.

While the details of what the re make will contain are still vague, it is sure to give both new and seasoned Drangleic adventures something new to see. Personally, I think the changes are a welcome addition and the new enemies and lore should be enough to tide Dark Souls fans over until the release of Bloodborne early next year.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is set to release on April 3, 2024 for PlayStation3, PlaySation4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC for all regions. There is no price confirmed yet but people who own Dark Souls 2 already, will get a free update that will add in the new content.

Brian Kale reviewed Dark Souls 2 and all of its DLC for Continue Play. He gave the original release an 8/10, saying “despite its faults, Dark Souls 2 is still likely to be one of the best games released this year. It’s engrossing, it has plenty of replay value, and there’s likely plenty of secrets locked away in its depths waiting to be uncovered; but if From Software was hoping to top Dark Souls, they still have some way to go.”

He was more enthusiastic about the following episodes of the Crowns trilogy, however - he loved Crown of the Sunken King, was slightly disappointed by Crown of the Old Iron King, but thoroughly enjoyed Crown of the Ivory King.
