World of Warcraft’s Dark Portal has appeared in a Chinese subway.

Dark Portal

Blizzard has a new World of Warcraft expansion out, in case you weren’t aware. It might have slipped you by - they’re a bit coy about promoting it, after all.

As part of their ongoing marketing campaign for Warlords of Draenor, the possibly-the-biggest-PC-developer-in-the-world - not content with trashing a cab in New York’s Times Square - has created a real-life replica of Azeroth’s Dark Portal inside a busy subway station in Shanghai.

Shanghai residents will be treated to some visual trickery as the life-sized Dark Portal makes use of cameras and various screens to work its magic. When someone walks past the back of the portal, their image is shown on the screens at the front (making it appear as though they are inside the portal). Characters from World of Warcraft appear inside the portal as well, creating the illusion that people are in the Warcraft universe.

For pictures of this cool feat, check out Chinese gaming website Sina Games’ post (Good thing you don’t have to be able to read Chinese to look at pictures, right?). You can also check out the video below:

We’re currently ploughing through Warlords of Draenor, but our review is going to be a while - it’s an absolutely massive expansion, and so we want to ensure that we’re able to cover everything in as much detail as we can before we deliver our verdict. In other words, don’t expect it soon - but we’ll try to have some early impressions up for you ahead of the full review goodness. In the meantime though, you can always read Heather’s preview of the game to get an idea for what Blizzard’s latest expansion to the decade-old MMO brings to the table.
