Mojang has just confirmed (via a tweet) that the mobile version of the super popular Minecraft, titled Minecraft: Pocket Edition, is heading to Windows Phones.
People began to speculate that this only occurred because of the recent Microsoft acquisition of Minecraft. However, Jens Bergensten, a developer for Minecraft and the same author of the previous tweet went on to later post the following:
Let me clarify: With the help of MS, we've been working on a MC:PE Windows Phone port for a while, already before MS bought Mojang. Ok? =)

While Minecraft coming to the Windows Phone is good news (the more Minecraft the better, right?) it may still be quite some time before Windows Phone owners can get to mining: “The port runs already, but there’s still much to do before any release,” Bergensten said.
It really shouldn’t be all that surprising that Minecraft is making the jump to Windows Phones. More than 21 million copies of Minecraft’s mobile version have been sold across Android and iOS devices - that’s close to half of Minecraft’s total sales (across all platforms), which currently sits at roughly 54 million copies. Microsoft has also recently began pushing for apps and games to be accessible across all their devices (The core concept of Windows 10) - yet another reason why we should have seen this coming.
Windows 10 aims to exist as one operating system (or OS) for Windows Phones, Surface tablets, netbooks, laptops as well as desktop PCs - heck, maybe we’ll even see it on the Xbox One. Perhaps one day it will be possible to play Minecraft with your friends on a variety of different devices, and with the way technology as well as software seems to be heading, I don’t think this idea is too far-fetched at all.
That said - can I get Minecraft for my PS Vita now, please?
