John Smedley, boss of Sony Online Entertainment, has been personally targeted with a bomb threat after discussing the recent DDOS attack on the PSN with players on Twitter.
The DDOS attack on PSN that temporarily servers have also affected Xbox Live and Battle.net, leaving scheduled maintenance postponed and blocking players from playing online. No personal details have been accessed in the attack by the group.
The group believed to be behind the attack caused an outage which issued a bomb threat to an American Airlines flight between Dallas and San Francisco, which forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Arizona. Smedley posted on Twitter minutes later that his plane had been forced to be diverted.
A Sony spokesperson has issued a statement to the BBC saying that the matter has now been turned over to the FBI for investigation. Players should now be able to access online features of the PSN, however Xbox has warned players may not be able to use chat functions in Diablo III due to the attack.
