The Last of Us to get two new multiplayer maps for free

Joel and Ellie press onwards

Owners of The Last of Us are to get two new multiplayer maps for free as Naughty Dog’s way of apology for the problems players are facing in the PlayStation 4 multiplayer.

PlayStation 4 users have been experiencing considerably long waits to connect to the online ‘Factions’ mode. Naughty Dog is currently working with other PlayStation teams in order to try and fix the issues, offering these maps as a gesture of goodwill which is “in appreciation for all of your continued patience as we work to resolve the matchmaking issues.”

Naughty Dog released a statement on its official site, “We know this can be frustrating and the team here at Naughty Dog wants everyone in our community to know that working on this issue continues to be our number one priority. Over the last couple of weeks, we have deployed LiveUpdates and Patch 1.02, which have resulted in some significant improvements, but there is still more to be done to reduce the matchmaking wait times.”

The estimated time for the issues to be resolved is “the short side of weeks, rather than months”, which means that hopefully with the other teams assisting the developers, players will be able to experience ‘Factions’ with no issues soon.

This isn’t the first issue Naughty Dog have had with upsetting their fan-base. PlayStation 4 players had already expressed their disappointment regarding the fact that they would have to purchase The Last of Us Remastered at full price, even if they already owned the PlayStation 3 original.

In Nic’s review of The Last of Us Remastered, he found that while it remains an excellent game - and is recommended if you never played the original - graphical glitches still remain, while a lack of any new content means that if you played the original, the PS4 version isn’t quite worth the asking price to make the upgrade. So if you never played it, then base your recommendation on our review of the original; but if you’re considering a double dip, then our review of the PS4 version is the one you want.

The Last of Us’ free maps will be available on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in the coming weeks.
