The Witcher 3 To Include Gwent, an Interactive Card Game

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red has revealed that an interactive card game called Gwent is to be embedded into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for players across all platforms.

Gwent is described as a fast-paced card game depicting a clash between two armies engaging on the battlefield, where players are the leaders and the cards their forces. Players takes the role of one of four different factions, each with their own unique combat style and endless paths to victory.

The game features over 150 unique playing cards and four factions to choose from: the Nilfgaardian Empire, the Northern Realms, the Scoia’tael and No Man’s Land. Powerful spell cards allow the player to control the weather or affect various units on the battlefield, and a vast array of combat styles means that players can experience the game in the way that they want to. Powerful hero cards can come into play as well, each unique to their own faction.

Although the interactive card game will be available across all platforms, purchasers of the Xbox One Collector’s Edition will also receive two physical decks of cards as well as a cloth map of the in-game world. Also in the Collector’s Edition is the standard edition of the game - which contains the soundtrack, a detailed map of the in-game world, unique sickers and the developer created ‘Witcher Universe - The Compendium’ - a collector grade Witcher medallion, a one-of-a-kind SteelBook, a two-hundred page artbook, a 33x24x26cm Polystone figure of Geralt of Rivia battling a Griffin, and huge outer and inner boxes to store all of this in.

Marcin Iwiñski, CD Projekt Red co-founder and joint CEO said of the game: “Gwent is an amazing game and we’re really happy to be able to bring it to the physical realm with Microsoft’s help. Now we’ve got Gwent in every copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as an in-game experience for free on every platform, and a physical version in the Xbox One CE, how awesome is that?”

The Witcher 3 is set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 24, 2015.
