Alien Isolation Trailer from Studio Axis

Today, CGI Studio Axis - in collaboration with Director Ben Hibon - released a new trailer for Alien Isolation intended to capture the thematic themes of horror that will be featured in the game.

The trailer, simply titled Improvise, stars Amanda Ripley and one of her encounters with the xenomoph on board a derelict space station. Amanda is of course the daughter of Ellen Ripley whose portrayal by Sigourney Weaver in the films helped elevate the character into cultural iconography.

Alien Isolation is definitely going for the imagery of the first film, and the interiors of the space station look exactly like Nostromo’s dark and cramped corridors. The trailer itself looks like it could be one of the scenes in the movie, with Ripley crawling through the - larger than they should be - air ducts to escape from the creature. She appears to be salvaging parts and equipment to break them down into usable crafting materials which could easily be a nod to the mechanics in the game. A hallmark of the Alien franchise is the resourcefulness of the protagonist and their ability to fend of the monster without the use of traditional weapons.

However, SEGA has already spilled the beans on the fact that guns will be included in Isolation, but not to defend yourself against the serpentine nightmare. No, guns will be needed to quell the hostile robots sleeping on the station, or the marauding space pirates that have invaded to plunder what they can. Hostile robots are of course an Alien franchise trope, with most being under firm control of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. And yes that is the same Weyland from Blade Runner.

The CGI trailer itself looks gorgeous and Director Hibon is said to have worked closely with Axis to create a small glimpse of the essence that made the first Alien movie great. Hibon hopes that same constant feeling of fear in the shadow of a ruthless creature can be replicated in Isolation.

“What makes Alien: Isolation so interesting as a game is that you as the player are completely underprepared and underpowered” said Hibon. “We had to ensure that was clear in our trailer. By keeping our story simple, a cat and mouse chase between Ripley and the creature, we focused very much on the fear in her eyes and face, her vulnerability.”

Alien Isolation is set to be released in early October, and the hype around this game has started to build up to a fever pitch with both fans and critics. Those who have played the game have had good things to say about the game, and that it has a solid vision for what it is trying to accomplish. But they also state that the game is unforgiving in terms of difficulty and that it will take some time to get all the mechanics down.

We’ll keep you updated on any future news and details about the release of Alien Isolation, enjoy the trailer.
