UPDATE: Blizzard has responded to the reports and informed Eurogamer that reports of the file size on PlayStation 4 are inaccurate and due to an error on behalf of Sony. A spokesperson told Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter that the developer is currently investigating the matter.
ORIGINAL STORY: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition is due for release on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3 on August 19, yet the latest figures on the install data shows a huge difference in sizes of the PS4 and Xbox One editions.
Whilst the game is not yet advertised on Xbox Live, installing the retail version of the game onto Xbox One will take up 21.82GB of hard drive space. Download the entire game from the Playstation Network, however, and you will have to install 62.7GB of data onto your system. Install the retail version onto a PS4 you will still fill 41GB of space - nearly double that of the Xbox One equivalent.
There is a size difference between the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game too, with the PS3 edition having just under 15GB of extra data - consisting of language packs for the EU wide release of the game - with each language pack requiring 3.5GB of space on the hard drive.
Does the extra hard drive requirements show Sony has failed to remove the language packs players won’t use, or does it suggest there are future goodies pre-loaded for post-release? Whilst waiting for that huge download to install you can also consider designing your character - there’ll be plenty of time.
We’re currently awaiting our review copy of Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition, which brings the excellent Reaper of Souls expansion to consoles. Dale reviewed the PC version upon its release back in March and awarded it 9/10, stating that “Reaper of Souls manages to fix the majority of the original game’s flaws, provides more than enough new gameplay to keep players going for a while, and fully justifies its price tag. If you played the original and didn’t like it – and there were many who didn’t – then you may well find yourself pleasantly surprised by this expansion.”
