Sledgehammer Games has unveiled a new trailer, premiering Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s multiplayer mode.
Having already caused a stir three months ago when they initially revealed that the latest game in the long-running Call of Duty series would be heading in a more sci-fi direction, and their choice of lead antagonist in Kevin Spacey, the focus has since shifted from the campaign and more towards the multiplayer battlefield.
Whilst in a game, players will take on a character with an exoskeleton which - in effect - gives them super powers. The suit gives players the opportunity to perform some super-fast evasive moves, like dashes and slides. A new boost jump feature also adds an essence of verticality to the game, letting players jump onto rooftops and continue the battle from overhead. Perhaps inevitably, many have compared it with Respawn’s Titanfall.
The exoskeleton will also have seven extra abilities to choose from, some of which expand upon basic human abilities. Overclock makes you faster for a bit and Stim gives you some extra life. The others add some sort of tech to the suit: Hover allows you to stay in the air after boost jumping, Cloak lets you conceal yourself, Crysis-style, Ping reveals enemy locations, Shield spawns, well, a shield in front of you, and Trophy System destroys incoming enemy grenades and rockets. The result of this will hopefully be that Advanced Warfare massively shakes up the multiplayer experience of Call of Duty, with players no longer only having to rely on having the best weapons and the fastest hand to win a game. The added dynamics should mean that players will have to use their skills and these new features to the best of their abilities in order to win.
Supply drops have also been revamped. Although they’ve been part of the franchise for years, players will now be rewarded with them for getting in-game achievements, with cool things inside like weapon loot, character gear and reinforcements up for grabs. These supply drops will come in three varieties: Enlisted, Professional and Elite.
Also, inspired by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 “Pick 10” system, “Pick 13” has been introduced. Players will now be able to pick thirteen perks, weapons, attachments and score streaks to bring into a game. The elements are also adaptable, with Sledgehammer claiming that there are around 350 weapon variants available.
If that wasn’t enough change for you, the lobby has also had a makeover. You will be able to scroll through the other players waiting to get into the game and look at all their avatars, seeing not only what they’re wearing, but the stats and perks that they’ll be taking into a game. Players will also be able to test out their new perks and weapons in an easily-accessible firing range whilst waiting, a fantastic way to use that time efficiently.
Finally, it was revealed that if players preorder the game they’ll get access to it a day before release in a scheme dubbed “Day Zero”. Players will also get special perks, including two special weapons - the AK12G assault rifle and the Crossbow-B2. Also included is the advanced arsenal, featuring the Bullet Brass exoskeleton and EM1 Quantum Directed energy weapon, and the opportunity for players to get double XP for 24 hours.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is released for PlayStation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on November 4th.
