Peter Molyneux’s Godus is now available for free on IOS.

Fable creator Peter Molyneux has released his new game Godus for free on iOS today, a year and a half after the game was successfully funded on Kickstarter.

This is the second game Molyneux has released with independent studio 22Cans, after Curiosity - What’s Inside the Cube? which was released in 2012.

In Godus, you play as a God who has ultimate control over its inhabitants and the path that they follow. Godus utilizes the touch screen on your mobile device to allow you to adapt the environment as you see fit, nurture your followers in order to help them develop and grow from primitive beings to futuristic explorers and establish yourself as a God who will either nurture and love his creations, or bring destruction to the land, showing that you are to be feared.

Of course, this all does sound rather familiar. Molyneux is after all a veteran of sorts with the god genre, after creating games like Populous and the Black & White series. Even so, he’s still passionate about his work. Earlier today, he tweeted “Godus has been released on IOS, and editor picked. I am shaking with excitement, emotional to the point of tears and thankful”, following up by then saying that Godus is “…easily the hardest most amazing thing I have ever worked on.”

Godus was originally released on Steam last September, via Valve’s Early Access program. Since then, it’s enjoyed regular updates and large revisions to its mechanics following an initially lukewarm reception. In a tweet to a Twitter user who asked about the PC release date, Molyneux has stated “the PC version is lagging behind slightly ‘cos we are implementing features but I hope we will have release news tomorrow”. Stay tuned.

We’ll be bringing our hands-on impressions of Godus shortly, looking at what improvements have been made since its initial playable build, so follow us on Twitter and Facebook, or subscribe to our RSS feed to be notified when it’s live.
