San Francisco has had its own Monopoly. Pokemon has had its own Monopoly. Hell, Northampton - a small town in the United Kingdom - has its own Monopoly.
With seemingly every location on earth getting its own Monopoly board, allowing local residents to play capitalist dictator over their home town, it’s only fair that other worlds get their due. We’ve already seen World of Warcraft Monopoly, And now, given it’s due, Nintendo mainstay franchise The Legend of Zelda is now getting its own Monopoly game as well.
Despite the above image, the game is not exclusive to Gamestop, although it can be pre-ordered there before its official release on September 15, when it will retail for $39.99.
While the pre-ordered version has a few extra bells and whistles, such as some Power Cards and a poster map, Power Cards and mass financial domination of the Hyrule landscape don’t necessarily go hand in hand. Also, you have to wonder exactly what going to jail would look like in Hyrule; at least in terms of a prison escape using just a hookshot and an empty bottle.
And free parking implies that there may be cars in the Zelda universe - although there’s something about straight up buying the Temple of Time that is highly amusing.
