EA has announced that its earnings for April-June are up 51% compared to the same period last year.
That’s according to the firm’s quarterly earnings call last night, which linked the growth to the strong performance of Titanfall and FIFA, as well as the success of the new generation of consoles. Chief Executive Andrew Wilson said that “our commitment to players and the quality of our games is paramount with every game we make. We have some amazing new experiences coming this year – games that will connect, inspire, challenge and entertain players.”
Mobile revenue was up 18% to $120m, while PC and download sales have risen by an impressive 90% - coming in at $71m. Wilson pointed to the company’s increasing use of freemium games - such as the much-maligned Dungeon Keeper Mobile - as the reason behind the mobile growth, with around $105m of the $120m total, while the rise in download sales has been pinned to the success of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One.
Meanwhile, it was announced that Battlefield: Hardline, which we recently previewed, is being delayed until the fourth quarter of the company’s 2015 financial year. “Additional player testing has shown great excitement for this new world of cops and criminals inside the Battlefield franchise,” Wilson explained. “It also showed us how, with more time, we could go deeper and innovate more. Visceral is testing and implementing several new features that will help to make Battlefield Hardline a game that players can enjoy for many years to come.”
While the news of Hardline‘s delay is unfortunate, it was confirmed that there will be an additional beta period announced for players over the next few months. Other games due for a release this year from the publisher are The Sims 4, which launches in September, Bioware’s Dragon Age: Inquisition in October, and a new Peggle game from Popcap.
