The lead designer of StarCraft and Guild Wars has announced a new game that he and his colleagues over at Motiga - an independent Bellevue-based game studio - have been working on. Gigantic is an arena brawl game in which teams of five face off in an arena with a large guardian protecting each. The goal of the game is to fight your way through to the guardian and slay it but beware, it too has some pretty nasty attacks.
Motiga also appear to have set their sights as high as possible after having received $20 million in funding to develop Gigantic, which must be utterly mind-boggling for an indie developer to receive such a gratuitous investment, even one with. You can see the preliminary game build in action on the video below but Gigantic’s website has put the ground rules of the game pretty simply as:
“A mystical bond connects you and four teammates to your guardian, a magical behemoth too powerful for a single mortal to defeat. Protect your guardian as your team charges across the battlefield, then see it crush your enemies underfoot,” it reads. “Physics-based abilities let you invent new ways to amaze your friends and frustrate your enemies. The element of surprise is key as you use WASD controls to sprint, dodge, aim, destroy barriers, hurdle obstacles, and leap from danger to safety.”
The studio also revealed that the list of playable heroes will be extensive, as will as the upgrade system. The visuals themselves look enticing and comic-like, and if you would like to have a go at playing Gigantic then you can sign up for the Alpha testing here.
