October 14, 2024 seems like such a long time from now as we sit in this sweltering early July weather, but 2K and Gearbox has been satisfying us with continued glimpses of their upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
Yesterday, the Borderlands YouTube channel published a brand new video from the famous villain everyone loves to hate to love: Handsome Jack. His “Tips for Surviving on the Moon” promo video doesn’t necessarily show us anything that we haven’t already seen in the past from E3 or through other video releases, but it has given us a glimpse in a decidedly Handsome Jack-ian way.
Dameon Clarke reprises his role as Pandora’s supervillain much to the delight of everyone everywhere. His voice acting, combined with the script (and Clarke’s amazing improv moments) in Borderlands 2 really made that game shine, so to have him back will be like visiting an old friend. Clarke’s delivery and timing is absolutely superb, and even this short 1:57 minute clip had us in giggling fits just like old times.
What’s really interesting about The Pre-Sequel is that we will get to see what caused Handsome Jack to evolve into the crazy, lovable, viscious psychopath that we loved so much in Borderlands 2. We have great expectations to witness this transformation, particularly if we’ll be able to know what happens to Jack that causes his face to be maimed and his iconic mask to be worn. As you can see, he’s young and fresh-faced in this new clip, ready to end his exile and take over the Hyperion Moon Base.
His tips include:
- Stay in the Air: Low gravity allows for high jumps and long flight times.
- Don’t Forget the Power of the SLAM!: Crouching while in mid-air will perform a powerful slam, damaging and knocking enemies away.
- Use Your Skills: Wilhelm’s drones, and Athena’s “Shmaptain Shmamerica” shield to name just two.
- New Loot: New guns, new grenades, and new mods to augment your jump-slam ability
- Lasers: Heh, heh, they’re pretty cool.
- Cryo Weapons: Freeze and enemy then punch them to shatter them into tiny floating space bits.
The developers are still 100% silent on Claptrap the Fragtrap’s skill set, though, so we’ll still continue to speculate and pine over the most beloved character in the franchise for a little while yet.
