Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit coming this year

Cooking Mama_Feature

Being a Cooking Mama isn’t an easy job; it requires intense dedication to culinary training, the kind that can only be done in a dojo whilst wearing a gi. Or at least that’s what Majesco, publisher of the Cooking Mama franchise, is saying will be the case in the upcoming Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit.

That’s not to say you won’t still be doing a lot of cooking though. There will be over 60 new recipes including pork cutlet rice bowl, chicken nuggets, barbeque skewers, pumpkin gratin, raisin bread, Hawaiian pancakes, gingerbread cookies and more. When you aren’t cooking or training there’s an assortment of miscellanous activities such as feeding pets, delivering orders, serving ice cream, word games and more, including 30 other activities. We get the feeling that “CookingMama might be something of a misnomer at this point. Players will also be able to customize their kitchens and outfits with new options that are earned through Street Pass. In addition cook-offs between up to 4 players will be possible with only one game card between them.

Historically, the series hasn’t offered a huge amount of depth, feeling more like a hodge-podge of assorted minigames, but that hasn’t stopped the series from becoming rather popular, particularly among casual gamers. We’ll be able to see for ourselves if the latest title feels undercooked when Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit ships later this year in September.

In the meantime, here’s some tasty screens to whet your appetite.
