Do you like classic retro games? Do you like to watch other players give live commentary and speed-run through games that took you days to complete?
Better yet, do you like to watch these same players doing all this for a good cause like Doctors Without Borders? If you answered yes to these questions then we highly recommend that you check out this year’s Summer Games Done Quick 2014 live on Twitch or directly from Games Done Quick.
Games Done Quick is a community of some of the best speed-runners from around the internet coming together twice every year to share their knowledge and showcase some of their tricks needed to beating some of the most iconic games in record times. This year they gather in Denver, Colorado to tackle games such as Earthworm Jim, Bioshock 2, and Final Fantasy VI - just to name a few. Donations are completely optional and the runners include donation prizes and incentives during their playthroughs. Some incentives include showing off funny glitches, challenge modes, competitions, and extra tricks.
The Summer event last all this week and culminates with the final speed run of Final Fantasy VI at a projected seven hours and thirty minutes, an impressive feat should it be accomplished. Check it out for the commentary alone as it is for a good cause and fun to watch for the whole family as they try to keep it as PG as possible. Maybe you’ll be inspired to pick up one of your childhood favorite games and try a few speed-runs yourself, good luck.
Look for your favorite retro games and their running times on their schedule.
