Bandai Namco has put out a pair of trailers that show off two characters that will be returning for their upcoming JRPG release Tales of Xillia 2. The characters in question are the fist fighting Jude Mathis and his bubbly staff wielding counterpart, Leia Rolando.
A year has past since the events the original Tales of Xillia: The disparate worlds of Rieze Maxia and Elympios which were once separated by a schism are now united in form, but not in spirit - tensions between the two still run on.
This is where Jude comes back into the picture. He’s researching an alternative energy source called “Spyrite” which he hopes will replace Spyrix and in turn solve Elympios’s energy crisis. This new energy source is the key to eliminating the tension between the two nations and uniting their people once and for all.
Leia, on the other hand, finds herself in very different circumstances from Jude, but that hasn’t stopped her from working towards a peaceful resolution in her own way. She’s turned her energetic temperament towards writing upbeat articles for a local Elympios newspaper - a way to promote cultural understanding between Elympios and Rieze Maxia. Going by her trailer, she might find herself writing about a train robbery instead.
Whether Tales of Xillia 2 will meet the high standards set by its predecessor remains to be seen, but either way we’ll find out on August 22nd when the game launches across Europe and on August 19th for North America on PlayStation 3.
