As Microsoft continues to barrage us with some amazing cinematography with their upcoming games, they’ve released some heart-touching imagery from Moon Studios with Oni and the Blind Forest.
We were given a glimpse of a touching story; an unknown, glowing entity falls from the sky, only to be picked up and nurtured by a simple man with a kind heart. Our entity, a bright monkey-like creature, flourishes under the love and care of the man until one day another entity careens through the sky. It’s a massive bird of prey, with dark talons and fierce eyes. Elsewhere, a powerful beacon of light bursts high into the sky and then disappears. The bird stalks menacingly toward our bright little hero…
We don’t know quite what’s going on, but we know that our owl-like overlord is not pleased at our transgression, whatever it may have been. Did we flee from oppression? Did we steal a valuable artifact? Or are we just a lost little foundling worth far more than our humble appearance gives us credit for? We don’t know. All we do know is that our new-found beauty has been destroyed by this creature and that the man is missing. We find him soon enough, lying prone among the fallen rubble of his home, and unresponsive. We shake him gently, and his plump black body moves limply at our touch, and falls still. His face is blank and his eyes remain closed. We are alone.
What appears to be a smoothly beautiful platformer, reminiscent of Humble Heart’s Dust: An Elysian Tail, clearly has a heart wrenching story to go along with its wonderfully stylized art which would easily find its way into a Hayao Miyazaki epic.
No information on a release date is available just yet, but we shall keep you posted as more news becomes available.
