We have all heard about some pretty crazy and daring purchases in our lifetime - from Britney Spears’ used pregnancy test kit on Ebay, to the window from which JFK was shot. However, no real sacrifice was made by these buyers beyond a wad of cash.
But when Chris Kooluris, a 30 year old New Yorker working enjoying a comfortable lifestyle - thanks to a position as Senior Vice President of a global PR firm - had difficulty selling his apartment, he did what any reasonable gamer would do - he decided to convert the bedroom of his modest home into a fully-fledged 1980s arcade: complete with gum ball machines, classic arcade games and some authentic old-school posters that he’s put up around the room. There’s even a high-score table - and, of course, Ninja Turtle bedsheets.
The total cost of this project? Around $26,000.
That’s also perhaps why his fiancé decided to break off their engagement after Chris became more and more obsessed with finalizing his dream room. She did in fact support him at first - she even designed the multicolored tiled floor - but obviously the price tag, along with his dedication to his dream room, became a little too high for her liking and she couldn’t handle it anymore.
“If you are going through relationship issues, you need to invest time in the relationship and work on it,” Chris told the New York Daily News. “Do not work on your arcade more than your relationship.”
“Now that my fiancée and I are no longer together, it’s hard to enjoy the room as much as I want to. I always end up thinking about her.”
Don’t feel too sorry for Chris though - he’s happily living the dream life of every 80s kid, and even holds regular parties that see he and his friends competing with each other for the highest score on any number of classic retro titles. Hell, he even provides an email where you can contact him asking to visit his mighty abode.
