When discussing the merits of Kinect, one game often used in defense of the technology is Disney’s Fantasia: Music Evolved.
Based on the House of Mouse’s 1940 animated film Fantasia, the title is being developed by well-known music game veterans Harmonix and was first announced in June of 2013. It is now set to release on October 21, 2024 on the both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Fantasia is a music rhythm game played with Kinect which emphasizes creative control for the player. As the Sorcerer’s Apprentice you’re tasked with animating an initially lifeless world by moving in rhythm with popular licensed music. As each level progresses you’re able to unlock additional musical elements to overlay on top of the existing track. These musical elements are then exported to an over-world for later use. Unlike conventional music games, Fantasia doesn’t score or punish the player. Success is determined purely by how many musical elements you are able to unlock in each level, and how much magical energy you are able to obtain.
A new trailer has also unveiled alongside the release date, which you can watch below.
October can’t come fast enough for Harmonix. Following the announcement that Microsoft will be selling its latest console without Kinect, the developer best known for Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Central recently faced a round of layoffs.
